Order and Burden

Order and Burden
11" x 14"
Ink and Watercolor

My 100th post!!! This is my submission for The Hive Gallery's Tarot Card show back in Janurary. This was for The Emperor in the Major Arcana deck, but unlike the typical stoic and manly depiction, I based my interpretation on the burden of being a leader. Particularly the leaders that actually put in the effort to be a leader, how they're relied on for so many things, any decision they make will always be opposed and praised. So the Emperor, a century's old depiction of someone in charge, was a great oppurtunity to depict this stress and what it can do to someone over time.

I can't wait to see this as an actual card, which will come out hopefully soon! I'll try to post info about that when The Hive finishes it. Wish me luck on the next 100 posts!

Pattern Stuff

Should've put this up sooner, but what the hey! I'm busy trying to be an adult with a regular job while being a fancy-pants illustrator. More to come, I'm posting these one at a time so I can force myself to focus on something. Wish me luck!

Postcard Paints...

Recently got a pad of watercolor paper postcards and thought it would be a great idea to use these up and send them to people. Since graduating from Otis and getting used to the real world, many of my friends are a little bit harder to reach. I figured it would be a great way to get in some painting practice while keeping in touch! More on the way, just hope people will want one of these suckers!

Overdueness...

Sorry it's been forever, I post a lot more now on my Tumblr, so if you don't mind, try to visit it! But here are some sketches I just scanned from the sketchbook I've had for a little while. More sketches to be posted and stuff to be done, please stick around!

Everybody's Looking...

Annie Lennox (Looking...)
6 x 8 Inches
Ink and Watercolor

Portrait of singer Annie Lennox for my very amazing mother as a late birthday/mother's day gift. She just needs a frame and she'll be ready to be hung at my mom's office! Her suit is inspired by a live performance of "Sweet Dreams" she did back in 1986 while the background was just something I did off the top of my head. I need to do more portraits in the summer for sure!

Postcard Drafts

I'm finally getting around to making postcards! A good friend of mine found a random printshop that makes prints really cheap at any size, so I might try them out. I made two versions of the front to cater to different types of companies (left is for editorial work, right is for clothing/fashion illustration stuff. I didn't make one for galleries yet, I wanna try putting myself out there for more concrete work first. I'm going to force myself to make new stuff, so sit tight!
