Nerd Paradise

Hard at Work
11"x 14"
Ink and Watercolor

This piece was a commissioned birthday gift from my Uncle Jose (aka, "Chipito") to my cousin Fernando. "Ferny" is a Doctor who loves video games, so my uncle wanted me to paint Ferny, at his office, daydreaming about his favorite video games. This was really fun to do, and it gave me a chance to brush up on my portrait skills, which I must say I'm getting more and more comfortable with. I know it's a no-no for some people to do commissioned work for family, but I got kind of lucky, my relatives are some of the best clients I've had thus far!

I can finally post this! This was a piece I did for the Sacramento Bee for an article on California agriculture in The Forum, their opinion section. This is my very first foray into editorial illustration, I'm so excited to have something published in something more than 100 people will see! Thanks to Nathaniel Levine and Sharon Okada at the Sacremento Bee for giving me this oppurtunity, I hope it leads to more!

Summer Sketches 2

First post of August, what what!?? So July went by pretty fast, I can't believe the summer is already almost over, I'm kind of bummed. I know everyone wants to see paintings, but sit tight until Monday, my new stuff will be up for sure. But for now, look at these sketches! I actually need to get a new moleskine soon.
